Greenstone Shopping Centre is one of the largest shopping malls in South Africa with 150 stores and covering 85,000m2 of retail space. The mall is open 24 hours and is visited by tens of thousands of shoppers each day.

Clayton Communications was commissioned to overhaul the existing fire detection system in the mall and retail areas. The new system , replacing the old system with full coverage of the shopping areas and car parks with IP cameras that can be viewed and controlled from remote locations as well as in the onsite security control centre.

The CCTV system met all specifications made by the customer’s electrical consultants. The project consisted of:

  • 250x high-definition IP cameras
  • 12-screen video wall
  • 30x network switchers
  • Installation of 8000m of fibre cable
  • Complete re-build of the head-end equipment racks

Our project manager worked with centre management and the electrical consultant on the project, with regular reports being submitted to both. To minimise the impact of our work during the mall’s opening hours, our installation teams worked on shift rotation across evenings and nights.

The Greenstone CCTV system provides the control room personnel with full monitoring functionality of the shopping mall and allows for live tracking of any suspicious persons. Management are easily able to log into the CCTV system remotely to attend to any out of hours emergencies. All footage is managed with both onsite hard drives that are backed up by secure cloud servers that are secure from the footage being accessed by any unauthorised persons. To ensure optimal operation of the CCTV system at all times, Clayton Communications are responsible for the scheduled system testing and continual maintenance.
