Citigroup is an American multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered in the US with revenue of over USD 76 billion and assets of over USD 1.8 trillion. As part of the expansion of their emerging markets operations Citigroup opened their new Lusaka office in 2013. This building accommodates 200 staff and up to 40 customers.

Clayton Communications was commissioned to supply, install and commission a voice alarm system across the retail banking floor, four office floors, outside areas and underground car park at Citigroup’s newly built Lusaka office.

The voice alarm system was installed on schedule and within budget. All specifications made by the electrical consultant were met. The systems consist of:

  • 93x loudspeakers.
  • 6x speaker line monitoring modules.
  • 700 metres of speaker cable.
  • 1x voice alarm system controller.
  • 1x evacuation power amplifier.
  • 1x backup evacuation power amplifier.
  • 3x remote microphones.
  • Link up to the fire panel

Our project manager worked with the main contractor and the electrical contractor to get our system design approved and implemented. All pre-installation work was completed from Johannesburg with minimal variations made on site.

The voice alarm system provides Citigroup’s staff and customers a safe and controlled management of evacuation in the event of an emergency. Each floor is on a separate zone so that a phased evacuation can occur to prevent ‘bottlenecks’ and overcrowding at exits. The system has line monitoring that continually checks the system for faults to ensure the system is operating optimally at all times.
